SHOWS ON CITW RADIO

Talking Albums is about music and stories. On each episode, host John McDonald sits down with a musical friend to chat about their music and records that mean something special to them. Along the way, John dips into his own collection to share some of his favorites. It’s a bit of a musical safari, really—wandering through jazz, blues, indie, and even a little drone—so you never know what you’ll discover next.

Join host David Cavlovic for some Classical Muse; great music from the vast domain of Euro-classical music, and other styles as well, when the muse feels right. Famous, not-so-famous, and even infamous recordings from all over the place that have managed to find a home in David’s personal CD collection. Tune in for two hours of music and muse, delight and edification.

Waveform Architecture, hosted by DJ NEXUS6IX, a seasoned artist with a career spanning back to 1992. His early gigs included playing at parties in Halifax's academic institutions, SMU and DAL, as well as making waves on the airwaves of CKDU 88.1 FM. Playing alongside esteemed DJs like S.O.S., Paladin, and Hugh Sharp, he quickly established his presence in the Halifax rave scene. Subsequently joining the slipdisc crew, his journey saw him share the stage with renowned artists such as The Stickmen, Terrence Parker, Christopher Lawrence, Peter Grove (Sunkissed), and Hesohi from Dubtribe. Into the 2000s, NEXUS6IX became a fixture at underground events, sharing the stage with notable DJs including Heavy Grinder, Marco G, Carl Lekebusch, DJ Preach, Hatiras, Freestylers, Roy Davis Jr, and John Aquaviva. NEXUS6IX's eclectic record collection spans techno, house, tech house, disco, and 80s club jams. With a preference for spinning house sounds on vinyl in the New York style, he brings a timeless approach to the turntables, ready to infuse the CITW Radio airwaves with funky vibes and showcase the artistry of wax spinning.

Migrations with Flock Of Goose is an hour long musical journey exploring a particular genre, certain sounds, or the thread of connections between electronic music from past and present. Each week is something completely different, curated by Flock Of Goose.

A lifelong resident of the Maritimes in Eastern Canada, Goose developed an eclectic taste of electronic music born of the mix of 90’s late night much music, the advent of Napster, and the lack of a club scene in his hometown.

With many years of listening experience and now a more than half a decade on the decks, Goose brings his unique flavour to music selection and mixing. Migrations will be about taking you on a trip from maybe something you know, to something you never expected.

Fun Dance Club is a high energy exploration of electronic dance music throughout the years. Expect full-length DJ sets and tracks by local and international artists.

KOHINA

I’ve noticed that my love of jazz has evolved into a fascination with ambient and drone soundscapes. In fact, my Spotify year-end review featured artists like Loscil, Brian Eno, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, and, of course, Stars of the Lid.

KOHINA — Finnish for “noise” — is an opportunity to share that exploration. I’ve subtitled it Soundscapes and Interference to reflect both the quieter, contemplative pieces and the more industrial, textural sounds featured on the show.

Join me on this aural journey. Let’s see what we can discover. - John McDonald
